In the event of the 100th anniversary of Jean Vilar, son of the village of Sète and founder of the national people’s theatre and the Festival of Avignon, Comediants created a theatre parade involving the creators of the stage arts. The parade ran along the town bridges, piers and canals, encouraging audience participation and creating a final meeting of actors and public in front of the Mairie, for the gift offering to Jean. The final goodbye to the sound of the moving Festa dé l’Issanka, a symbol of the cheerfulness of the citizens of Sète, sung in Occitan, and under the fireworks in the night, became a homage to the man who fought for theatre to become a public service, such as water, gas or electricity.
